That Will Never Work: Trailer – That Will Never Work: Trailer | Anthum
Vision
To tell the story of an idea that should never have worked. More than a technology success story, this film explores the human journey behind the creation of Netflix—the doubts, setbacks, flashes of insight, and relentless determination required to transform a simple conversation into a global revolution. Our goal was to remind viewers that the most transformative innovations are often born from ideas that everyone else dismisses.
Approach
We chose a cinematic, character-driven approach inspired by modern entrepreneurial dramas. Rather than focusing on historical exposition, the film emphasizes emotions, conversations, and pivotal decisions. Concise dialogue, expressive performances, and carefully crafted visual storytelling bring the audience into the creative energy of Silicon Valley in the late 1990s. Each scene is designed as a defining moment in Marc Randolph’s journey, capturing both the uncertainty and excitement of building something entirely new.
Inspiration
The project draws its inspiration from That Will Never Work, where ambition, innovation, and human relationships drive the narrative. Visually, we sought to recreate the atmosphere of late-1990s California—crowded highways, coffee shop brainstorming sessions, improvised offices, and long nights spent chasing impossible ideas. The result is a tribute to the entrepreneurial spirit and to the moments when vision begins to overcome doubt.
